This service notes that 78 years have passed this August since the dropping of the atomic bombs on Japan and reflects on J. Robert Oppenheimer’s infamous words upon witnessing the first nuclear bomb test: “I am become death, destroyer of worlds.” We will hear the original Sanskrit chanted from The Bhagavad Gita and consider the frightening power Arjun beholds in the presence of Krishna. We carry this holy fire within us, and must choose how to use it. Do we run violently toward the ashes of death, or burn brightly proliferating the infinite brilliant light of love and life?
