Coming of Age Orientation for Parents and Youth

All are invited to an orientation for this year's Coming of Age outreach program for 7th to 9th grade youth, Sunday, September 30 at 11:45 a.m. Youth from our congregation, as well as friends and neighbors, are invited to participate in this eye-opening, interfaith journey beginning in January. Space is limited and we will be accepting enrollment materials on a first-come, first served basis. Pick-up a brochure or contact RE Coordinator Vic Caldarola for more information. Riddle and Mystery

This year's curriculum introduces and processes Big Questions. The first three echo Paul Gauguin’s famous triptych: Where do we come from? What are we? Where are we going? The next ten, including Does God exist? and What happens when you die?, could be found on almost anyone’s list of basic life inquiries. The final three are increasingly Unitarian Universalist: Can we ever solve life’s mystery? How can I know what to believe? What does Unitarian Universalism mean to me?

Past year's classes

The class talked about the Lord's Prayer and translated their own version in class:

God in heaven, your name is holy.

Help us make earth more like heaven.

Give us food to eat.

Forgive the things we've done wrong and help us forgive the people who have done wrong to us.

Help us not be tempted to do something bad.

Protect us from bad things.

So be it.

RE Summer Sunday Program Begins

Explorers classroom

 

 

love surrounds me

 Welcome to the Explorers classroom, where not only do the children learn about the 7 UU principals, but they also practice them. 

In particular, we practice each person being important by working together, listening to others ideas and respecting what others choose to do during exploring time.  Also, in the Explorers class a favorite class time is having snack together and sharing joys and concerns.  Each week the children tell things that are making them happy or sad for this.

 

The Explorer's class started a new curriculum called "Love Surrounds Us" on September 18.

Remember receiving travel postcards from friends and family on vacation, and each would end with these four words? Imagine sending postcards to all of the hurting, hungry and troubled people of our community, or even the world, and inviting them into our sanctuary and our classrooms. What would we as Unitarian Universalists have to offer? What would we teach? Join us for this Sunday's multigenerational service, and let's write some postcards.
