Covenant of Good Relations [1]Sugarloaf Congregation of Unitarian Universalists
PurposeTo provide principles and practices (guidance) of how we wish to treat one another.
PrinciplesWe, the Sugarloaf Congregation, in the spirit of community, covenant to create a joyful community founded in love and caring, accepting of who we are while supporting each other’s growth, and in which each member feels as secure and as free as possible to be engaged, honest and vulnerable.
To this end we each are responsible for:
Respecting and appreciating each other’s            Inherent worth and dignity            Beliefs, opinions and viewpoints            Abilities, limits and needs            Time, privacy and feelings
Acting in ways to promote            Joy, hope and healing            Integrity and trust; ensuring respectful resolutions to disputes or complaints            Honest and productive communications in a kind and sharing environment            Appreciation of all efforts – big or small            Opportunities for growthMoral character
Honoring and valuing            The congregation and its children            UU principles and practicesThe SCUU Mission Statement            Differing opinions, ideas and their open examination            Our diversity and commitments            The serious and the humorous (fun and CHOCOLATE)

Guidance – Through
Practicing conscious gentleness in all physical and verbal interactions, speak to inform not to manipulate
Honoring our time together by being present for the start of meetings, using careful listening techniques and the democratic process as we strive for consensus
Honoring our time apart by ending meetings on time, and when giving and fulfilling requests for information or action
Communicating our feelings with “I” statements
Respecting others by challenging ideas and not people
Respecting Each other’s confidentialities, emotional and physical boundaries, and freedom to choose steps in their personal or spiritual journey
Settling differences directly with the person involved, while staying in relationship, assuming good intentions and keeping an open heart
Working Together to keep our children safe
Following this covenant in times of turmoil and tranquility
Stretching our boundaries of forgiveness
Celebrating and sharing our life experiences
Supporting one another in times of need
Welcoming all, especially visitors and guests

[1] SCUU Covenant version of May 19, 2005, formally adopted May 31, 2009, by a motion of the Congregation, to wit:  “Resolved, that the Sugarloaf Congregation of Unitarian Universalists accepts the Covenant of Good Relations of May 19, 2005 as the source of principles and practices guiding interpersonal relations, to be reaffirmed or revised at next year’s annual Congregational Meeting.”  Covenant of Good Relations revised and affirmed at May 19, 2013 Congregational Meeting.  Covenant of Good Relations revised and affirmed at May 18, 2014 Congregational Meeting.

You Might Be UU -- How to take Christ out of Christianity

Wed, 05/06/2015

I figured there'd be a Unitarian reference and I was right ... Living on Tulsa time ...

A good read ... How to take Christ out of Christianity

"These are the people who identify with ambivalent, ambiguous statements like “I’m spiritual, but not religious”; “I’m kind of agnostic”; “Now I’m an atheist, but I grew up Catholic”; or “I believe in something, but I don’t know if it’s God.”"

“These people are looking for communities and for memories from their background, but they want to do it in an intellectually consistent way.”

"Believing Christians need not water down the fact that God is at the root of their commitments and traditions to accommodate nonbelievers. And nonbelievers need not make a point of telling their believing brethren that general goodwill or humanism is a better motivation for good works. As Maguire points out, the biblical metaphor for society is a household, not an institution but a dwelling place for a family. Though families will quarrel over what they don’t have in common, they are meant to come together for what they do: an ancient story of a new family formed in a place most of us will never go and a call to peace in the world that none of us can ever entirely live up to. And that is worth keeping alive for its radical, enduring and miraculous love."

Hey we are "these people".

SCUU.ORG has Technical Difficulties and is Down

Sun, 03/01/2015

Hopefully we can get the site back online soon.

For visitors you may visit our visitor web page --> http://scuu.org/visitors/

Please note: The server is setup to show the "splat" page and not go to a backup web site so that the techies at Entirely Digital can see the issue and resolve it. If we bypass the error in the case of the system being down they can not debug or know what the issue is... Hence the splat page shows all the techie information of the error. The last error during the Great Web Crash of November 2013 resulted in making this change to facilitate resolving the issue. Plus the bypass can cause errors of its own.

The tech representative said they are aware of the problem. It is affecting many customers. We share a server with up to 1300 customers however I think we "only" share with 100 ish customers on our current server based on a conversation I had in 2013.

So the Tech representative says they are aware and they are working on the issue. My guess is that it is migration related.

quite the pain.

This is the first time since November 2013 we've had to make this announcement.

I am arranging my altar to the tech gods. Hopefully that will help too ... I've considered lighting incense.

It is the nature of the cloud beast that we don't have complete control over our environment. There are setting to the server that we are not privy to. Entirely Digital holds the keys to control of the servers.

Nevertheless, quite the pain.
