Refreshments and desserts served.
Carey Creed is a contemporary folkie whose songs are influenced by her years in Celtic, Big Band, Black Gospel, and Folk-Rock groups. The Washington Post calls her voice lovely … warm … naturally tuneful.
She has received numerous awards from her peers in the Washington Area Music Association for contemporary folk and gospel vocals, and for her most recent recording, Peace of Wild Things. She has also been a top winner in the Songwriters Association of Washington contest, including First Place in the Folk and Gospel categories.
Subjects in her writing include: a true adoption story with an O. Henry finish; an Andrews Sisters-style ditty about a little wallet searching for a worthy owner; a delicate setting of an ancient Vietnamese poem; and a lullaby about not having to go to sleep.
Carey’s music has been used in films to promote the use of hospice and to raise awareness about an interfaith coalition. Two of her songs have also been covered by Grace Griffith on the Blix Street label.
For this concert, guitarist Bob Williams will be working with Carey as he often has this past year, weaving in his considerable skills in folk, R & B, world music, and jazz.
